Spice Monkey

Super delayed blog post but it's been a busy busy last couple of weeks! We're glad to hear such positive responses about our blog and will do our best to post in a more timely fashion. There's a ton of stuff we've done and seen in the last few weeks and are working on getting it all up soon.

Recently we went to an amazing restaurant and felt it urgent to post pictures from this visit. A few Sundays ago, upon a friend's recommendation, we went to Spice Monkey, an organic resturant in Oakland featuring "California fusion" cuisine. From the moment we stepped in we were captured by the amazing decor and the warmth of the hostess who greeted us. Initially we were so indecisive about our menu selections, since it all sounded so delicious and appetizing, but eventually we came to concensus. Below are images of the plates we finally agreed on, including a shot of our drinks (a house-made Lavender lemonade and Black Mango iced tea....so yummy and refreshing). We can whole-heartedly say we were not a bit dissapointed and recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to enjoy amazing organic food, while engulfed in a tranquil and pleasant environment. :)

Peace and love

Osborn Shoes (I'll take one of each, please.)

Super cute, colorful hand-made shoes that are fair trade?! I absolutely LOVE this new line and the fact that the designers (Carla Venticinque-Osborn & Aaron Osborn) pay the Guatemalan artisans who produce the shoes fair wages for their craft. Unfortunately, each pair I wanted to buy was sold out so evidently these are quickly becoming very popular (maybe lucky for my pockets because I swear I was ready to buy every single one...).

Dirty Mouth?

Fabulous! Try Miswak, for a good clean feeling no matter what.

Mis-whaat? Let me bring ya'll up to speed.

Miswak is a twig of the Peelu tree which has been used for thousands of years in Muslim countries for oral hygiene. Often referred to in western culture as a "chewing stick," this twig is a must have, all na-tur-al way to get them pearly whites you've always wanted.

Ancient peoples did not have the facility of a toothbrush or tooth paste yet, amazingly, this "wonder twig" comprises the benefits and qualities of both. Scientific studies have revealed benefits include: kills gum disease causing bacteria, fights plaque effectively, fights against cavities, removes bad breath and odor from mouth, creates a fragrance in the mouth, effectively cleans between teeth due to its parallel bristles, increases salivation and hence inhibits dry mouth (Xerostomia).

Miswak is nothing short of amazing and I can tell you from personal use, it really makes a difference in brightening up that smile.

Try for yourself, just visit your local Middle Eastern 'halal' market or ebay it. To read more about Miswak and the studies done by Universities and companies like Wrigley visit http://www.dentalhealthsite.com/what-is-miswak/.
